I've never taken a deep look at the oil problem around the globe until these videos and it has definitely been an eye opener. A Crude Awakening discusses our dependence on oil and how precious and hard to find it is. It just amazes me how oil is used for EVERYTHING! It really worries me what will happen in the future if we don't find a viable energy source considering the oil fields drying up are such a magnet for war. More and more oil is being taken from less and less stable places. I also can't believe that while the world is running out of oil, countries are still overstating their number of oil reserves just to keep their production rates high. People really have no idea of the horrible realities we need to face when it comes to oil.
I chose the YouTube video, GOOD: Oil Addiction by GOODMagazine, as my online video on oil. Much of it was done in a cartoon/picture format but it still did a really good at discussing the way oil shortages will rise the cost of living. It says that the fear of an oil shortage causes the rise in the price of oil and that with the 40% decline of the US dollar since 2001 oil exporting countries are asking for $144 a barrel instead of $25. The large push for biofuels will lower the crop supply for the growing population due to the diversion of crops and that in 2009, 1/3 of corn output was to be put aside to make 9.3 billion gallons of ethanol. All of these things happening are causing horrible riots all over the world. This video ends with the question of where do we go from here. I think its important that we evaluate all of our options and do our best to make a better future for our world.
